If RI would have mirrored the inner frame rails it would be simple but since I got $125.00 worth of bearings and flanges the best way I can see is move the bearing flange out with the sq tubing .I had read so much about upgrading to the inner bearings in place of the bushing now was the time since I have the frame out. Thanks for the help! Divedigger

just keep searching and you will find the bearing you need. you could always do what I did and find the bearing and then make a housing that will fit.

The cast flanges are 3 1/4 and and the inner frame is 2 5/8 . I don think I can mill 5/16 off of top and bottom of flange and it not break. I was interested it what ways  anyone else has came up with. I should have searched out bearings instead of ordering what they said everybody was using.

You may need to cut the flange back a little where the bearing is. Kinda like a C,Notch

Putting inner bearings on older max 2 What are some ways to bolt the bearing flange on the passenger side inner frame rail since the cast flanges are to big to fit inside? The motor mount sticks out in the back and the transmission mount in the center . I got some  2 1/2 square tube 6 inches long that would bolt to inside of frame rail then drill for axle and bearing, any other ideas? Thanks Divedigger

I would say it depends on how hard you are going to ride your machine.  I just recently did an overhaul, I opted to leave my bushings and to keep them greased.  My max is a play toy at the lake and ranch.  It wouldn't get enough rough riding in my opinion to justify the price of upgrading to bearings.  But a part of me wanted the bearings too..  popcorn popcorn

I was wondering if there are any benifits to inner bearings or should I just leave the bushing set up yes I have my frame out to repaint it so now would be the best time to make the change. looking for the input from everyone who has experianced this chage.
Wedge had a good point  A Bearing Will lock and fall apart and let you down ! BUT Thy are Stronger in the long run also.  :-\

Speaking of bushings, I was considering tapping the bushing/axle and putting a grease zerk on them to keep them lubed without removing the axle. Anyone tried this?   dance
Most of the time the grease comes out the drive pin holes for the sprockets before it gets into the bushing, also the bushings are a press fit so you need a tool with a shoulder and center guide to keep the bushing from collapsing. if you try and shrink the bushings in by heating the shaft, the different expansion rates will make the bushing loose after it cools.  would work if you shrink the bushings with dry ice or liquid nitrogen.

I am with you on this 100% but just pointing out if the guy has no way to upgrade he can still use them . If you have it torn all the way down then Yes go to bearings !

The bronze bushings are junk.
you'll be working on your car all the time.
When the bushing gets worn and oversize your axle gets pulled of center,
then your sprockets are not inline anymore.
Next your wearing out sprockets and breaking chains.
Pay me now or pay me later syndrome.
If you only ride your car a few hours a year it won't really matter.
It will eventually ruin your day and leave you stranded
