T20 Backwards controlls???

I would like to hear a follow up as to what caused the issue.  It would be good to know so if anyone else has the same issue we all know what to tell them.

I assembled two of these transmissions last night.  I don't see how its possible to install the bands backwards.

I didnt pay any attention to the diamond shifter direction when I put them back in. I turned them by hand and everything seemed to move/shift smoothly. I will pull them tomorrow and check that first and let yall know. I have the late model t20, I replaced all thrust washers where they were. Samenone maxrules99 rebuilds. It's a 2000 model with 18 hp vanguard. Do the bands go in L L and R R? May have to pull it and see what I did. 🤮

Shifters go in with pin to the rear when diamond is straight out. Remove the diamonds and shift both sides inward and try it out. That’s forward and should operate properly. If it goes forward with sticks back idd say bands are in wrong side of case. If you have a 2stroke it could have wrong pull start and be running backward. To identify a band hold the plunger in your hand with it pointing toward you. If it spirals to the left it belongs in left case. They can be installed backwards.

I think he has shifters in the wrong sides and its in reverse and the pin cant shift the collar to foward with them being in the wrong sides. my 2 cents

The shifter arms lead back to the diamond shifters.  The diamond shifters are left/right sensitive.  If they are on the wrong side the T-20 will not work.  I have never heard of the issue you have described.

Did the T-20 have the thrust washers in it when you took it apart?  Did you put any thrust washers in it?  If it did not have thrust washers and you put some in, did you have the drums machined with a recess so they will fit?  If not then that is probably the issue as that will jam the drums together and it will work as one drum.  As you pull the sticks back you are releasing the reverse drum allowing the drums to spin.  This is about the only thing I can think of to cause the issue.

or the engine is running backwards ? weird

I started it with the pull start, so it cant be running backwards. Shifter arms? Is that the part that the linkage hooks to going in the tranny?

Bought my first 6x6, max 2 for a project. Knew it needed bands from day one. Watched and studied the maxrules99 vids on YouTube to get familiarized with the t20. Ordered the rebuild kit with the over sized bands. Had the drums turned down per instruction. Got it back together and went for a test ride. In forward or reverse no movement, even if I give it gas. Pull sticks fully rearward and it takes off, forward and reverse. Push sticks forward and it applies brakes. What in the world have I done?
