Well I will start a post on My Max 2 I just bought . It will be at my House the 23rd so Merry Christmas to ME banana dance
In the mean time I got a chance to get the only other Orange Upper I know of. The one Whipper has is the only one out there I have ever see !
So when I got a chance to get one I jumped on it banana
Neat thing about it is it is just like when it came out of the Mold ! UNCUT !!!
Take a look and tell me what you think ? Like do you need All the side holes cut open ? Should I leave extra on the side apron ?
Now is the time to do this ?

As best as we can recall, minimum order for a particular color was 10. Will try to find out for sure from someone that kept a paper trail. ;D
One was a completely assembled orange machine that was built in Buffalo. See if we can find the picture.

I wanted a Blue one back when thy redid the Green into that Spinach looking deal.

Looks like the orange bodies were molded and sold by RI before all the carnage went down.
I know that’s right because there’s no way I would have bought anything from Indiana.
Rumor has it there were 10 or maybe 20 orange bodies molded in 2 different lots.
Some had the orange peel finish and some were smooth.
A few were sold to key employees, I bought one and the rest were sold, some assembled, some not.
They were a very limited edition for that color.

I know they made red, green, brown, blue, camo, orange, yellow (Shriners), black. They even made a lime green one that was badged Northway. What other colors did they make, if any?

Was Dark and raining really good so I will take pic's Sunday After I give it a good Grease job and lube the chains. Was full of water from the ride to me.

I am Saving up my time off at work as we speak popcorn
I will have my big truck done by then so the trip is good to go. Man I tell ya he did a Great job putting this thing together ! Looks Realy good inside and everything is like New banana
The upper show it's age but Hay that is going anyway. I was thinking of all these things I was going to do to it But now after looking it over I am Very happy just as it sits ! I put the windshield on it ( never had one of those before ) and have the top up so to grease it and lube the chains . It was Full of water when it got here but it has a Bilge pump and That is COOL !!

Well I greased it and adjusted the chains and Lubed the chains + aired up the tires Had to take it out and put her in the river !
Man it feels good to Back in a MAX !
Not as Fast as my A/Cat but all the fun !

Yes! Wedge it’s well worth the trip,7 hour drive for me and I don’t mind at all for the amount of fun and to meet all the great people that go there too. You won’t be disappointed!!!

I need to start laying out and cutting the body out of the mold flashing.
I was thinking of the side and back Vent cut outs . What do you guys think if I was to use a Hole saw and put 2 big holes in the section ?
Or do I need to make a Jig to cut them out like the factory ?
Just looking at my options on this Before I Cut whistling

you could drill out with a hole saw and if you don't like it make it like the factory cut out. I would make a jig now for the future. :)

There are all kinds of decorative mesh you can put in the cut outs.
I’ll post some pics of what I did to the Gila Monster,
Then you can brainstorm after that.
You have to have some kind of vent holes to let the heat out.

When you got your body it was already cut .

I think you could make a small template to do one at a time.
Clamp to the inside and use a router bit.
Or you could drill 4- 1/2" holes. one in each corner.
Use sawsall to connect the dots? Or just use a hacksaw blade,

You may not have to cut out the vents at all if you cut out the top in the back.
I cut out the tops on both the Model Citizens SS and the Gila Monster.
A great way to let the heat out.
And much easier to work on the car. No need to separate the bodies any more.
Just something more to think about Wedge.

Have 12 Championship's under my belt. But as with most of us that was back in the day. Wish I had pic's on my computer to show you my cars !
Built All my own cars and still build car for the up and coming guys to this day. Just miss the Smell of the Fuel and dirt !! whistling
I am thinking on the open top deal as I like the way yours turned out But once you cut it It's Cut !
The newer top Dose have a SMALL hole in the top that as you said you Have to Prop it if you want to work on it !!

I wouldn't worry about the mud so much. The track was always crazy watered down & all our machines had the cutout over the motor. That was to let more heat out for when we ride here in AZ, but as I recall, I don't remember the engine compartment being loaded with mud when racing on the track like that. I would have more on the outside of the body (and my visor) than anything. Don't cut it unless you feel you need to. You can always do it later, if you feel you need more ventilation or if you just want to reach in to adjust something. I would do the cutouts for the side vents. I remember when racing in the 70's that Whip duct taped those vents once to keep some mud out & it overheated. Wasn't he a "Dr Smarty Pants". hilarious

Here's a few pics of the Gila Monster and the SS with the engine cover cut out.
I made a luggage rack for the SS, so that helps keep a lot of stuff out.
And still plenty of room for the hot air to escape.
The nice part is It's real easy to work on now, and don't have to separate
the top and bottom to pull the engine or T-20 out.

Thanks Whipper ! My Plan is to make a Lift off Rack to keep stuff in that sets on Bars of the roll bar. I plan on Cutting Some of the top out But still keep it in tact to get into the back.
Here is My Start to the rear Roll bar. I Chose to use the Factory Bar as it Ties into the Main frame for support.
This is just the start and Not the Finished Deal !

I am Using the TOAD for Mock up so as Not to have to weld over my New Body .

Not pretty yet but I Like the way it turned out.
I can run a windshield or not and may make one out of Lexan instead of the factory.
Has Head room and room to work in the rear. Pretty Stout also.
Sure glad I have the Toad for Mock up !!

Be careful, get carried away one time and one bar to the front
my not be enough. One big hit to the front may bust up that nice

2 bars to the front would make it easy to put some kind of top on it.

It will also be getting 2 lower rails to tie into the Main Hoop. Just didn't get them bent up yet.
I was also thinking of running support's on the under side to the lower tub ?
That will take a Lot of Flex out of it for sure.
It is still a work in progress at this point. popcorn But Thank you for your input as it is always good to have. ;)

Cage is Done. I put lower Rails to the front from the main hoop. Also ALL the bolt down Plates have the a Plate on the underside to Sandwich the body for support. The Lower bars are Heavy wall so thy wont bent very easy ! I also put 4 tab's on the rear to mount a rack to hold stuff so not to lay it on the body.
Now I am building a front bumper .
Also wanted to ask you guys if you like the Square head lights or the round like the older max ?
I am looking into both but always like to hear your all thoughts ;)

What color are you powder coating the roll cage? So many colors to choose from.
I like the rectangle headlights.However, if you make them round you can get decals like this to put on them.

Very nice Wedge!! I wish I was closer to you. I would pay you to build a roll bar for my attex I flipped over backwards on top of me at ash in october!! LOL all was fine as I had 2 guys behind me to get it off of me, If not it could have gotten ugly. It was starting to get a tad heavy. dance dance dance

What color are you powder coating the roll cage? So many colors to choose from.
We talked about the color and I was thinking Blue or A Matalic Silver. Kimmy said Gold .
So I will end up looking at what he has to offer ?

our company colors are Orange and grey, we have those colors on the stripes of our plane and they really pop together, my vote is GREY.

Ya..something different. You want me to say PINK, don't you? NOT going to happen. I was amazed at all the different choices there are for powder coating. The metal flake colors are really cool, too. You're on your own for this one. We'll be watching. popcorn

Look into prismatic powders. There’s a lot of neat stuff you can do now, with glow in the dark and or sparkles. We do some of this for specialty floors, but they do have it for powder coats too.

I will say first off cutting the new body in was NOT FUN !!!
Man I worked my a$$ off to do it rite but I am happy with how it turned out after a 12 hour day in the shop.
I also cut a Large section out like wipper suggested so I won't have to lift the body to get to the engine Plus can run with it off to let heat out. But also made it so it will mount to keep Brush and mud out for those types of rides also. It mounts with 4 = 1/4 turn buttons like we use on the racecar body . Cage go to Powder coat this week so the Great Pumpkin should be together soon popcorn

You know I was thinking of just a Light bar instead ? Have another Idea what to put in there place and can add them later if need be ?

The new Engine is in and wired plus built the exhaust to exit the stock location , Test ran after I did my Belt alignment and am Happy with it. Just waiting on more parts to hit the door and we should be ready for assembly of top to bottom popcorn
Also need to make a seat whistling

Well got the new belt in and aligned, Ran -4 line for my oil pressure gauge and finished the exhaust. Plus fixed a Crack I found by the exhaust port in the lower tub. Got the fuel tank in the top and set it on the lower. Just need to make seats and mount the roll cage as soon as it comes back from the coaters.

Wedge text me exactly what dodge parts you need. The guy at my shop that you saw some pictures of has everything dodge, from the original hemi’s to convertible Demond’s and Cuda’s that’s his passion. From wiring harnesses to glass to dashboards he will have it. He just ran 2 threw Barrett Jackson last year.

Oh yeah we definitely have scorpions. Black lights make them stick out like a sore thumb. 8)

Anyone happen to have the dimensions of “bed” of a Max II. Late 90s. I assume they are all pretty much the same anyway. But I am looking at a used roof rack that I could repurpose if the dimensions are right. Toad is up at the lake about an hr away so I can’t just go out and measure. :(

I have 2 uppers here at the house so I will go out first thing and get you the specs from the roll bar to the rear and side to side .

ok from the center of the roll bar to the back top outer ridge is 24.1/2" . And it is 43.1/2" Wide at center to the top outer ridge
