Hello everyone.  I just picked up and Attex ST300.  I believe it is pre-1970.  JLO L297 motor.  It is in really rough shape.  Starter locked up.  Carb issues.  Broken chain.  Cosmetic issues.  Price was right though.  It has been modified.  Engine has been raised and rotated 180 degrees and there is now an Apex Gear MPLS Minn gear box under the motor.  Belt from motor to Apex, then chain to axle with the 2 brake mechanisms.  Was told it ran and drove.  I am new to this and am going to need some help.  Thanks and nice to meet you all.

Hello all.

Just recently bought a 1983 Argo TB 8X8.
Needs some work but I think it will serve my purposes just fine.

Already changed the four rear chains and ordered up a new bearing kit or two.
I am hoping all it need is to get caught up on some neglected maintenance.

Oh and some new LED headlights and a few personal touches.

I got two to finely load in the gallery. You should be able to see them. I’ll try to get more up tomorrow and hopefully I find my pics of the Attex when I first got it.

I’m new to the AATV world. I’ve always wanted one when I was a kid. I traded a 4 wheeler I rebuilt for what I think is 1972 Attex 252 Colt. The machine and body was a basket case. I made all new drive shafts and custom heavy duty hubs. Changed out every bairing, moved the controls to the left side, plastic welded all the cracks and holes in the body, made new brake discs and chain guides. I’m sure I have forgotten other stuff I’ve done. Drove it for over two years before I started losing compression threw a spark plug. I liked bring the Attex back from the dead. The 440 two stroke Rupp motor that’s in it now is hard to find parts for repair. It’s been sitting for a year because I was not sure on witch way I wanted t go with it. Now I’m thinking of get rid of it for a newer machine. Thanks to Wedge for reaching out. It’s nice to be on a site where people talk about what we all love to do and not other B.S.

Thanks guys.  I'll post a few more pics after I figure out how to mount the engine.  Need a longer drive belt too to provide adequate standoff from the T-20 transmission.  Probably 52".

For the engine, I have Kohler Command Pro 38 HP.  Probably overkill but we'll see.

Thanks
No such thing as overkill.
No such thing as to much HP. Ask WFO.
Looking good Joe, all you need now is some alum chain. dance dance dance

Welcome Joe,
You'll have to look into changing your Avitar to an 8x8 er :))
What are you using for a body?
Power plant? Big Block  banana  banana Big Block  banana  banana

I'm building the fame out of aluminum but I'm not sure yet about the body.  I thought about using aluminum, wood, or high strength plastic plate.  I used diamond plate aluminum for the underneath and will probably use the same for the interior floor.  The sides and top may end up being wood but I'm open to ideas.

For the engine, I have Kohler Command Pro 38 HP.  Probably overkill but we'll see.

Thanks
