Well I greatly appreciate all of the help I’ve received from you wedge, and everyone on this site. Also I took your advice and removed the front chains. The machine responds much better to the left and right, also I don’t here the clicking or binding of the chains anymore. The last test will be trying it out running over phragmitis. We will start back into that tomorrow. Once again to all on this site thank you greatly for your help.

I’m embarrassed to post this but for someone else it may help. When I spread the bottom clutch apart I was directed by a snowmobile mechanic to put a piece of the old belt back in to hold open the clutch, when I did that and restarted the machine after the belt was on, all but one piece remained in the clutch, today another mechanic came by to service a tractor and while he was there, noticed the issue and fixed it in about 5 seconds. So to everyone that has been helping me through my idiotic belt delema I’m am sorry for wasting your time. But I thank all of you for your help. :P    wedge were is the dunce hat emoji

That belt is correct for a MAX IV with a Vanguard, bottom clutch is correct for belt.

You need a  11  1/4"  center to center distance, you are more than welcome to

Ok wedge I finally measured c to c it's 11 1/2 inches. There is also a 5/8 rubber blocks under the table and 1/2  washers under the engine.

I've been running into issues with drive belts for about 4 years. their not right, too long too short. Last week i called Q.D.S. and ordered a certain belt that i always get and when he tried to verify it, it was 2 inches too long and it was the same part i always get. manufacturer changed their #s and we had to go with the center distance for the correct belt.

Max 4 belt. Again

2000 Max4.     comment clutch, red springs, 23 hp vanguard chapperel belt number DF 41650-0 with white marker wrighting on it that says 1092 it also says Dayton on the belt. I don't know the distance between clutch center shafts. The bottom pulley is almost open as wide as the belt, it may need to open up another 1/4 inch, the top pulley is wide open. When I pull the belt up tight to the bottom pulley ther is 1 1/2 inches between the belt and the top pulley shaft. There isn't a 1 1/2 inch of bolt to shim up. Where am I going wrong?
