so after blasting chivo falls, this is what i found when i got home. still had a good day of riding.
-
after finding this dried out belt and missing a piece of it i found this , its that time to refab a better part. last time it was refabed was 4 years ago, not bad for GLAMIS every year jumping.
-
WFO : What is wrong with the rear brace ?
-
yea, been waiting for it to break. it is loaded inward at the top and unloads on the bottom and when going over rough terrain it tends to flex.
so over time it pulls the metal apart.
-
OK Now I see it. Didn't get that pic the first time ?
-
will be using these parts to make a new crossmember, 1 inch .120 wall DOM CHROMOLY tube CR 3/16 flat stock, CHROMOLY HIMES and bungs
-
I was thinking of using Himes !!
That way the flex / movement has a place to go.
Wow Great Minds do think alike !!
-
good quality GERMAN DOM chromoly
-
Ahh the good stuff !
-
pulled the back apart to take a closer look and do some measuring.
-
I would back up and think about that.
I don't think the heim joint is a good Idea.
The idea behind the rear brace and the front brace plus the one in the middle
of the car was to hold the side plates solid, so the body would not flex like the front
did and start cracking.
The cracks could get worse.
Don't know, lets talk about it. popcorn
-
OHHHHHH, let me finish the thread first and then you will see what i am doing. I can't put it all out at once. KEEP YOU GUESSING
-
so first did a little measuring, built the bracket ends first and re-measured to make sure the tubing when cut would be the right length.
-
so, brackets made bungs welded up and ready for a dry fit.
-
finishing up the brackets and prepping for a dry fit

If this don't cure the problem it's sure gonna look good. banana banana
It's going to work just carry some extra bolts.
-
I broke the back brace on Godzilla in the same place a few fears ago.
I ran a piece of 1/2" all thread through the bottom rectangle brace and bolted it to the outside of the side plates.
-
UH OH this is going to get good ! popcorn popcorn popcorn popcorn popcorn popcorn popcorn popcorn
-
OK OK, dry fit time, but not done yet

So far it looks good ;)

Done just it time to go riding.

second phase. TIE IT ALL TOGETHER . bar clamps , so when i get these all in place and i need to adjust upper and lower crossbars just loosen and twist. DO THE TWIST.. as of right now i have the upper bar pulled in just lightly and the lower bar out just slightly, i used the orig. measurement to go by. this is the reason why I'm using the 1 inch molly heavy wall tubing to give me little more clearance from the body.
-
DO THE TWIST? Well Let's dance. dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance dance

that comment was just for you MODEL CITIZEN, i knew you would say that
-
almost done, the notcher makes it easy to fit pieces. i kept it simple and went with a 45 degree angle
-
OK here it is, all that now remains is to mount the WFO on the back
-
Look's good from my House !
