I posted this a few other places with pretty low reply. Post up what tires you have, what size you have and what size they ACTUALLY measure, how you like them, how they swim, how they handle mud and other terrain, and what machine you have them on. I know there are alot of discussions about tires but I am hoping to get more info all in one spot! Thanks ahead of time.
-
I have a Max II with goodyear rawhide III 22x11x8. They swim ok, and handle most terrains well. They do not clean out very well, but that can be a good thing. I have a setup for duals I run as well but it's just to wide like that. I want to go to some 25" tires at some point.
-
Monkstr, I have the same tires and size as you. I also have a Max II. I don't have experience with other sizes or brands but I find mine to be a good all around tire.
-
Not sure if this will cover all the bases,but here goes;
I have an Argo Conquest 6x6 (a Bigfoot with a liquid cooled engine) running the Goodyear Rawhide III's (the ones from 2000 that are no longer being produced). Not positive about the diameter but i believe the Argo axles are 25" center to center. With 2-3 psi they can not be more than 24/24.5" as they do not contact one another on the machine. They swim well but not as fast as the Goodyear Terra Tire with the 12" wheels found on many Max IV machines. They do very good in mud (for what I ask of them). They do not ride very nice at all in general.
I'm running old Goodyear Runamuks on my two Attexs. They swim well and do ok in mud but nowhere near as agressive as some other types (easier on axles in my opinion). The size of these I know. I go by circumference, not diameter. They run 69.5/70" on 7" wide wheels at anywhere from 1-5 psi depending on how worn down the thread is. They ride like little marshmallows banana.
-
You said you would like to put 25" tires on your Max II. I have seen 1 Max II with 25" tires and that was at Pine Lake this year. He said they measured about 24.5" and he had VERY LITTLE room between the tires, Less than a 1/2". He also said he had to expand/stretch the tub once or twice a year so they don't rub. I don't remember if he had to use wheel extenders. To expand/stretch the tub he said he would heat it and use 2x4's to expand/stretch it. I don't remember the type/brand of tire he was using but he did say some 25" tires were too big and hit each other.
-
Thanks for the replies guys. I do plan to have to stretch the body and on the max II the axles are 25" center to center as well. So that's the big issue is that alot of 25" tires can be larger than 25" or even if They are just under 25" as they spin faster They can expand and will rub each other. I would love to get some mud bugs but the new 25" ones say they measure 25.2" where the older ones for sure measured more like 24.5" which were perfect.
-
Just remember that these Machines use the tire in a Reverse Pattern so as to Cup the Ground under the tire to get Bite and Flotation .
You Don't want the tire to Dig down and High center your machine.
That is why the AT 101 was such a good tire.
I have the older NangKang chevron tires on my Amphicat. As that machine has Small axles and Chains.
On My Max 2's I ran the Rawhide tires and thy fit the type of riding I was doing.
The Runamucks seam to work Real well also and Ride very good to boot.
It is really all in what your looking to do with your machine really.

Yep, different situation, similar dilemma. If I can not get the R III's on my Argo to cooperate as mentioned here http://6x6talk.com/index.php?topic=201.msg2544#msg2544 there are few choices that I feel comfortable with to replace them. All for the same reasons. Furthermore, mine are on 9" wheels which makes buying new 8" wheels a must. If I must go this route this is probably going to be my decision.

Yeah, times 6. Ouch.
-
I ended up ordering 6 24x11-10 swamp witch tires from simple tire and then 6 10x8.5 rims from Jims tires. Got the tires for only $400 shipped to the house with a discount code and the rims were $230 delivered to the house. SO next week I will have some wheels to wrestle with and then some body clearancing.
-
May have to work the body a few times to get it to set . Take your time with the heat gun as you don't want to thin the body out to much !
-
I put 25” rawhides on the Model Citizens SS once and there was only about
1/4” space between the tires. They never did flex much or touch each other.
I was more worried about what might get caught between them. Anything big
Enough would surely lock the wheels up and maybe break a chain.
I thought they rode pretty smooth but then again it was on a springer.
You could run any tire and it would feel good.

-
I mounted up these for the StarCraft but may try them this winter on the Max 2. ( Snow )
I Like the fact that thy are close to the old V tread NangKang tires of old.
Gives you a little wheel spin and is not so hard on the drive line.

Oh...now he tells me. :o Actually they were quite a cush ride, especially when driving over river rocks, but I prefer a little less bite on the open road. It's all about the terrain that you ride in & how you plan on using the machine. Sometimes when you hear people rave about a particular tire they end up being useless for someone else. It all seems to be an experiment to find what YOU need & if they work best for those needs. We don't need a mud tire, soft tire, but we do need a tuff tire.
-
I have a set of these if you want to try them out ? A Kick back of day gone by !
Maybe I should SELL them to a COLLECTOR ? HEE HHEE whistling
-
What other tires you guys running ? I like the RawHide III and I see you can still get them New But a little pricy ?
I have some others to try that I mounted up for another Project. I need 3 tires as I have 3 with some pretty Bad side rot !
So I thought I would see what is out there you all like to run ?
Post up pic's if you have them.
-
Wedge I know I have 6 tires that are off my max when I bought it, there in the shop, and there in good shape I think there 25 inch rawhides I’ll have to check. Don’t buy anything yet I may have what you need.
-
26x12.00-12 NHC tru-power/titans 6 of them I’m shure you know more about them than I do, they are in very good condition.
-
Thanks Buddy but to big for my machine.
-
Max2 not a 4? These were off my 4
-
Yea Bud I have a Max 2. But Thank you very much for the offer !
-
Anytime, I guess I should post them. I’ll never use them and I’ll need 21s for tracks for the max 2
-
I thought there was a guy looking for those on the Wanted section ?
-
I have been looking for tires as My RawHide III set has 3 bad tires. And the price is Nuts for those tires !
I found these at a Great price and from the Specs and looks I thing thy will work very good on a 6x6 :D
What you guys think ?
-
What brand are these?
-
TracGard N686 All Terrain Bias Tire 22X10-9 B/4 Ply
Sold by WalMart !
Wow who would have thought it banana
-
What is the lug depth compared to the Rawhide III? They look like they may do ok in the mud but how well do they swim?
-
Don't know yet as I have not bought them yet. Thy look from the pic very close ?
I would say thy should swim as the "V" pattern is what moves you ( reversed )
Plus the Closed "V" should pull and work as good if not better just like the old Chevron tire of old banana
But here is the Kicker ! I can fit my ride up with 6 new tires for LESS than the Price of 3 Raw Hides !

You have 9 inch wheels on your max Wedge?
-
I have a set of Bead locks I worked up that fit it . Made them for the StarCraft but I will run them on the max Then do another set for the SC.
-
I have found over the years that having any break in the chevron just makes the tires cavitate.

I think they would be worth a try if you can get 6 new ones for less than the 3 new Rawhides.
-
iagree
Plus The Raw Hides swim But not as good as a set of the old style Chevron tires. I had those on my Terra Tiger and it would Blow by the max with R,H's on it whistling
-
That's what I was thinking ascaw popcorn
The 9" tires I have mounted up now are really just for the snow and not real deep bitters so I will just hold them for another project.
-
If they are as durable as the Rawhides they should last a good long time also.
-
Well it looks like you can be the test pilot on these and give us all your reviews. O0
Keep us posted ;D

Bring that machine to Ash in June. You will have a blast there. I ride with this guy they call Egoperf and we tend to have a heck of a time each ride if I can keep all 6 tires on the machine! LOL

I run 26x14x12 Vandetta tires on my MAX IV in the summer. They are a great tire. Very smooth ride compared to the Goodyear Terras and much faster in the water compared to the 24" Argo tires I had before these. These were the widest tire I could fit without running wheel spacers.
-
Hey zuk good to hear from you
-
I drive 22x11 Goodyear rawhide iii’s. I love them in the mud. Little slower in the water but I needed a more aggressive tire for my terrain. Cactus and thorns everywhere. I filled each tire with Kevlar sealant.
-

Hey there! Thanks, just found the forum :)

Glad to have you here. This is a great forum and everyone is very helpful.

Got them in today and the Lug depth is just as Deep as the RH3's Really like the way thy look and I am working on a set of wheels for them now so I can mount them up and test them out. Putting them on 9x9 wheels so I should get a Nice foot print banana

For the cacti & thorns & ROCKS, I love our Rawhides. We don't do the sealant. Don't need it.
-
If you guys don’t need it than nobody should those videos show all types of thorny bushes
-

I remember popping a bead once, even though we can run high psi with the springers, but we never got a flat or worse..a sidewall puncture . I have the same Rawhides that my machine came with. We did pick up a nail once (in the desert), but I think that was when we had the Runamucks on one of the machines.
-
Must say the RwHide 3 is a tuff tire ! I ran them on all my Max's but I am going to give this new tire a shot and see if it hold up and dose what the R,H did ? for the price I can't go wrong banana banana

Drive them like a Rental. They might be all you need. ;D
-
You Know me Mod banana
Always thinking Outside the Box 8)

Mod I’m looking for a rental. It’s probably cheaper hilarious

Duck ! After what your machine has been through I am Not sure you Could Rent one ! Thy would kick you out the door of the place ! hilarious

Only till IT breaks down. ;)

Or else he would have a deductible of about $20,000. >:D
-
Well There go's his Deposit whistling
-
I did some off the cuff adding at the trans shop the other day and stopped at $6800. Don’t tell mom
-
You could buy another machine or two for that amount.
-
If you need sealant in your tires then your tires are dry rotted or damaged
And your wheels are bent or damaged..
A good tire and wheel should hold @3 psi.

-
I definitely need sealant in mine. Mesquite thorns are the toughest thorn out there. 3-4 inches long and go through everything. I put 12 ply atv tires on my stepdads 4 wheeler and the thorns go straight through. But the good news on those is they are so rigid they don’t need air. They are SunF 12. Crazy awesome tire but not for the six wheeler. My rawhide iii are sealed to the max with multi seal Kevlar.
-

We haven't had a problem with our mesquite thorns & we, too, have plenty of them. Best thing we try to do is avoid a mesquite & duck if you go under one. Do what you gotta do, I guess. :)
-
Oh I would if I could! I’ll send you a video of our land. It’s covered in Mesquite and thorn bushes. There’s no avoiding them. They cover the ground around here. I’d love to have dirt roads to drive down but I’m not that lucky! O0
-
Well heres a couple pics of the land. All the green brush you see in the pic is full of thorns, there is no dodging them. I even stopped and picked up some thorns off that brush. Look at the size of the thorns here in Texas. I can't drive my ranch without running them over, its that thick with them. popcorn
-
crap those are huuuuuge. I already know what size your TEXAS Flys look like but that rediculas. :P
-
It’s time for roundup max
-
Steel wheels?
banana banana banana :))
-
I was going to say solid fork lift tires. if you had a springer that would work fine. MMMMMMM
-
Maybe FOAM FILLED whistling
-
Maybe FOAM FILLED whistling
thats what most people do around here. I got the kevlar multi seal which is supposed to be the best seal. If it doesn't hold up, foam will be the next route! banana popcorn
Steel tires may be the best bet though whistling ;)
-
Speaking of springers, it reminded me to ask what psi everyone runs their tires at? Toad gives one hell of a bumpy ride, albeit fun, but I am running my Rawhide III at 10 psi. I thought about dialing them down to get a softer ride. 8)
-
Also, has anyone ever tried out the Aqua Torque tires? I think a set of those may be in my future for as much as I will swim with Toad.

3psi max for me. 10 psi andid be outta that thing rofl
-
10 PSI in RIII's, Ouch! :) I run em on my Argo at 1.5~2.5. I run my muk's right around there on the Attex's also.
-
WAY to much air pressure !!
Like Joe said 2 PSI is a good ride banana
-
Even on the springers, we usually air up between 3-5 psi. Whatever it takes to get all of the circumferences the same for all.
-
Steel wheels?
banana banana banana :))
wheels are usually steel unless its hilarious aluminum whistling.. wegism
-
I’ll put 2 psi in each and see how they ride. I put 10 in them to spread the Kevlar and seal the slow leaks. They have seemed to seal so now I can back the pressure down.
-
Looking at getting another 2001 max II already. I found the camo color I wanted. What’s the biggest size tire that fits that machine? popcorn
-
22"
-
That’s what I thought. Wish bigger tires fit. I guess I’ll have to wait until I get a Max IV!
-
With a heat gun and a little effort, you can get old Rawhide III's 25x12-9 on a Max II. See if member egoperf has any photos.

look at the pics on here from ashtabula october ride. egoperfs machine is the red one thats always in the mud!! LOLOL]

Need new tires but price is the biggest factor here.
What are your opinions between these two tires? Carlisle Stryker https://fortnine.ca/en/carlisle-stryker-tire (https://fortnine.ca/en/carlisle-stryker-tire)
or the Duro (Deestone). https://atvtirescanada.com/duro-hf243-mud-sand-tire.html (https://atvtirescanada.com/duro-hf243-mud-sand-tire.html)
Similar tread design and price point. I will be considering removing the small lugs between the ribs.
Not going to be used primarily in the water but do want to use the first A in AATV once in a while.
-
Craig. You have a WallMart there ? Also if you have 9" wheels I found a really Nice Tire thy sell Cheap !
Let me know and I will send you the info.

We do have a Walmart near by but the Walmarts in Canada are nothing like in the USA.
We used to go down to the Smoky Mountains and you could buy Super Swampers off the shelf!
Not here. >:( I find walmart not much more than an oversized k-mart.
Looking for 8" preferably 22X10X8 but 22x11x8 seem easier to find.
-
I run my rawhides at 1.5 to 2 psi and seem to be good in the woods and on hard pack
-
After considering the AT101's, Runamucks, Carllisle Strykers and the Duro HF243's my bank account decided on the Duro's
Very reasonable price almost half of what the other tires cost. Got them delivered for $71.00 (Canadian) each.
Mounted them "backwards" so they acted in a similar way as the original Runamucks. They grip well and steer good too.
The big question was how well they would work in water. I dont have anything to compare them too specifically but they seemed to work ok in my opinion.
I wont be breaking any speed records but the machine putted along at at steady pace and I am happy with their performance.
The other benefit to me is their size. I had an issue with my track which I use in the winter rubbing along the bottom of the tub and the previous owner actually rubbed a few holes through the plastic.
I measured my old Runamucks (22X10X8) and they must have expanded with age. They are as bald as can be but measured out at 22 1/4" inches.
The new Duros are 22X11X8 and actually measured out at 21 1/4" inches. I am hoping this will give me enough clearance when the tracks go back on for the winter.
-
I really dropped the ball and never updated weather I liked the swamp witch tires or not. So far they have been great. Ride smoother than my rawhides did. Tear through the snow and get great grip on even glare ice. They DO swim, just NOT very fast at all. Slower than the rawhide IIIs did even. But that's why I have an outboard motor. Havent got any real mud tests yet, but if its anything like the snow, they are a great tire.
-
Has anyone tried these Kenda tires?
https://www.amazon.com/Kenda-Garden-Grasshopper-Mowers-21x11-8/dp/B085DLH2H8/ref=psdc_13789601_t3_B005C5MCX6?th=1
The pattern looks like it would swim well, but the lugs are a little closer together then the Rawhides.
-
Carlise AT101 on Amozon for like $65. Good tire and used on alot of 6x6's . I use them at my shop and the price is rite !
-
Ok thanks. I skipped over those because it didn’t seem like they had enough tread depth, but google tells me it’s about the same as the Rawhides.
