Title: garage door opener suggestion help
Post by: garretttpe on December 31, 2018, 12:43:31 AM
Hi All
1st of all it is SOOO nice to be home finally even though for a short time. The house I just bought has a 2 car steel detached garage with 2 steel roll up doors, 9x7 I believe is the size. I want to put electric openers on it but the ones made for it are like 450 each from lift master. and no way I will spend that. Any suggestions on what I can use? I am thinking about a cheap opener from Lowes
and install a gear on the door drum for the chain to drive, do you guys think this will work, 150 bucks is better than 450.
I would prefer to attach a motor direct to the drum end but I cant really find anything, but than again it is 1am an my sleep is AFU due to traveling..lol

In theory it would work only concern would be if the lifter didnt have enough torqu to do the job but swapping some gears around could easilly fix that to just might have slow opening doors.

thanks
the dorrs lift up real easy, half the effort a regular garage door opens when disconnected form the automatic opener.
