has anyone tried drilling out the shifters for new pins to make the right left and the left right? or just drill deeper to make a fresh hole?
-
I would say he is trying to Save the shifters ;)
I would think it could be done as Long as you Index them rite
-
I made a jig for this years ago. If I can’t weld to the pin and pull it I grind flush and drill new holes. I would have to look in my notes for drill size as they press in.

I did and it worked, it was confusing and I'm pretty good at fickson tangs
My problem was one broke off half way down in hole at angle and even with drill press it was too much trouble. They are hard pins

ConGrats on the repair !!

See richard at www.6x6parts.com for much better thicker stronger carbon fiber bands, cheaper that the old style ones too Jeff bar

Superfox did you use the factory pins? They are roller bearings, I have used hardened dowel pins when I had to and they are very close to bearing material. I haven’t been able to get pins out that are below the surface either. If they stick up any I place a small piece of metal around the stub and weld to the pin. Then weld a pulling bolt to that and heat the shifter until pin is anealed and won’t break. When the trany is reasembeled check the throw on the levers and make sure it detents on the shift collars and diamonds aren’t tight against case. May have have to grind a bit off the diamond to get a bit of play. Even new shifters can have this issue.

just used the shank of a grade 8 bolt

Thy may be to soft. You can get Hard pins through Fastenal if you look for them.
But for now just keep an eye on them to see ?

The Grade 8 Bolt is not hard enough to last. The pins that came in it are Hard Steel like a Bearing roller.
