So we almost burnt down a couple hundred acres of marsh last week before the nor’easter. We’re using the max2 on a new peice of property, that, so far the tires haven’t got us stuck. (Still love those tracks whipper) so I need to move the muffler. I was thinking of cutting it off and having a muffler shop weld a peice on and bring it out the top by the motor. Could use any suggestions and it’s not for racing, just useing the machine to run over phragmitis. Don’t need any chrome headers or anything else just a simple poor mans fix. Luckily the phrag that was jammed up by the muffler was smoldering and didn’t have a full blaze going. That would have been a mess. Thanks for the help.

I’ve had the same problem many times. Usually after a trip in bog then sitting till it drys out. If kept clean it doesn’t cause problems. As far a moving the muffler it can be done. Inside mounted is the way newer IIs have it. Makes for a lot of heat in engine compartment and several heat shields to protect the tub and seat. I purchase mandrel bent 1 1/4” tube pieces to make up the exhaust. Most muffler shops won’t have anything that small. I’m sure some supplier near you has them. You can find tube that will slip fit if you want it removable. I use Colombia River Manderl bending. Other side of contry from you but there site will give an idea of what is available. If you go up or out the back make sure you protect yourself from walking up and laying a hand on it. Wedge posted some pics of my II with inside muffler installed. Good luck and I agree with you on tracks.

Did you just bend the pipe and slide it over the existing pipe and clamp it? Thanks for the response

I just sold the muffler you need for your max 2 to garretttpe for his Max 2 . Here is what it looks like .You may have to modify you upper body or at least heat shields.
Just let me know if you want me to get you one ?

Now that’s handsome.

I’m with whipper. Give it some bling. This is sufficing until I get time to build headers.

Haha I’m all about being quiet and hidden considering it’s a hunting machine for me. But I’d love to have it hot rodded out like y’all! Jealous lol banana

The Harley exhaust is actually more quiet than the stock was on mine. One the headers are on, who knows. Having it so far out the back definitely helps, though my fingers are attracted to the shiny chrome and I’ve touched the hot muffler on more than one occasion.

Well that is one way to use a Sportster muffler popcorn

I have the other as well. The original plan was to use both, but using one allows access to the clutches and belt easier. We’ll see once I get the time to build headers. I’m cutting the rear tub at the top seam and moving my fuel tank on top of the wheel well to give a little more room and putting a flat bed on top that will hunt forward for access, why I was ok with putting it out the back for now.

Well, the sportster muffler is too long with the headers, so I need something shorter. I’m running 1” tinto 1.5” on the headers.
Any thoughts on running a stock small car muffler? Was even thinking a rice rocket short muffler might actually run quiet on the Vanguard. Have wanted an OEM takeoff sport bike muffler, but they’re just too expensive for right now.

FYI, I went with an Emgo shorty muffler. Not the shortest they make though. It’s 15” and weighs 2.4lbs, far less than the sportster muffler. A little louder, not sure if it’s because it’s just not so far behind me or not. Headers are 1” into 1.5”. They look so cute compared to what I’m used to seeing.
The Emgo muffler is cheap $26, was here on the same day I ordered, and had a removable baffle so I can play with the noise a bit.
Machine is still getting worked on (meth+back injury equals slooooow progress from my mechanic), but I’ll try and gets some pics of it in soon. Here’s a shot next to another sportster muffler I already had.
