as you all know I have built and been using these ULTIMATE BEARINGS for 25 years now and they have been great
so now I will relinquish the part number for you to do what you want. at the moment I have started to build a set for the inner rear
for a my MAX IV SPRINGER .....GOLIATH. you all know how hard it is to grease those rear inner bearing and I do to, sooooo.
more to come >:D
-
Looking forward to your posting and photos! Thanks Jeff Bar
-
So to refresh your memory this is one of the outer bearings for GOLIATH assembled
C whistling
-
Looks like a nice heavy duty fabricated flange. Tell us more.
-
this is the rough cutting for the bearing housing. it needs to be cut down further and cleaned up.
S whistling
-
Lots better than stamped steel flanges. What do you use for bearings ?
-
so the housing at the bottom is what has been on GOLIATH for some time now, they are the outer. then the pic of the bearing I use and the housings that will be on the inside of the inner frame rail, it is cut to fit between the rails and use the original bolt holes. its stepped to maximize strength and the zerk fitting.
E whistling
-
So is that a sealed double row ball bearing?
-
no ball bearings , they are double tapered roller bearings in a housing and double sealed. very expensive , will get to that later.
B whistling
-
Spherical roller bearings. I can see why those would hold up better. The stock flange bearings are the cheapest things ever. Especially with the lock collar. At least I switched to the set screws.
-
quick look before I paint it, fits perfect in the frame zerk installed. almost ready to go
22 whistling
-
got it painted and mounted , now I have to have a longer axle made so the locking collar can be used
42 whistling
-
new axles by WHIPPER. had to buy 24 feet of special 1 1/4 bar for this, $$$$ just to make two axles, so if anybody needs strong axles made let me know
theirs 21 feet left.
0 whistling
-
going together ok but found some damage to the frame, post those pics later
sometimes an H whistling and sometimes a E7 whistling just depends if its the outer or inner
-
so back to the bearing its a LINK BELT, google the part # and check out how much they cost whistling
-
so I have 9 years on these bearings and a lot of miles, I decided to take a look at all of them to see if they needed replacing. since I'm doing the rear inner I figured what the hell.
I have all the chains off and will replace them. with the chains off its easier to roll the axles to feel and hear any bearing damage and I did. I found one bad ULTIMATE bearing and 3 of the 72 mm destroyed. the one ULTIMATE had water in it , tried to save it but its junk. now to inspect the frame.
-
NOT GOOD , HAVE TO PULL THE FRAME OUT AND DO A GOOD INSPECTION AND REPAIR , well 9 years of WFO comes with a price, AND WHAT A RIDE IT WAS.
AND SOON IT WILL BE AGAIN >:D
-
so out come all the axels so I can remove the frame for repair https://youtu.be/Gpp514p9msQ
-
got the frame out and ready to repair. will have to repair the suspension side plates also.
-
got some of the powder coating back today . banana
-
nopics
-
some of the mods to the frame. welded frame in critical areas and added inner frame rail 3/16 hardened support plates. and powder coated
-
more repair
-
powder coat and side plate support brackets. new zerk fitting. longer for better access
just waiting on more powder coat pieces and upper and lower control arms.
control arms will be a new color. some kind of dodge orange . not HEMI.
-
INSTALLED, rear axles and aligned sprockets into ULTIMATE BEARINGS
-
Looking good WFO. banana
-
more powder coat work...its dodge orange
-
banana
-
all the axles and sprockets are now in and aligned. next will be the chains
notice the inner 72 MM bearings four fronts have them and of course the rears are ULTIMATES
-
got the chains and T-20 in today. look real close and you can see the zerks on the ULTIMATE BEARING. easy peasy to lube dance
-
those chains were a bear putting together. had to buy a master link installer. the gold master links are stronger than the chain. $$$$$$
had to get the links out of the UK. 45 $ each.....OUCH but hey the shipping was FREE...
-
COOL ! Now I know where to get the tool if I need it kik
-
my pretty links. that tool was a b**tch to get in their
-
WOW, one heck of a master link, impressive
-
I paid that for my last 50 foot of chain but of course it didn’t last long
-
getting their. most of the hard part is done.
-
WOW, out freaking standing, hat off to you sir tp
-
So for a long time I had problems with making sure all the wheels were straight ahead and at a good 90 degree for this springer to track straight. So this is what I came up with., after making sure everything is level off the ground and side plates are tight and all cross bars are in place I used this device to put in place of the outer bearing carriers and then align everything true from side to side
WORKED GREAT
-
well all done and it all started with a broken band in the trans. thats the SNOWBALL EFFECT
ARE YOU WORTHY ? let me know
-
whistling kik fls
-
What is the total width outside tires
-
BUMP
this is for Wedge and anyone else that want to build an ULTIMATE BEARING.
