I put this B&S oil cooler on my Bandolero engine in my springer.

The only modification needed was to drill some vent holes in the fan shroud. I also used some foam rubber draft seal to channel all of the air through the cooler. You can't see it because it's between the cooler and the shroud.

Another thing to help with the motor temp,
is an oil cooler.
I have one on all my cars.
I'll try to get a temp reading next time out.

The SS oil cooler is down inside but slanted at an angle and points toward
the vent holes for the heat to escape. works quite well.

170 for water cooled in 100 deg means you sized your radiator right.
I wouldn't say I sized it right. It's the stock Briggs radiator.
The gage is telling me the water is 170deg, I'm sure the head temp is much higher.
The back of Godzilla is wide open to with no engine cover, that helps a bunch.
Not down  inside a covered like a MaxII.

I picked up an AutoMeter gauge kit. It has the sensor that you tap into the head. Like 1/8" . Was looking to use a hole already there and not in use. On my Racing Carts I used a tach set up that had the temp in it also. That sensor went under the plug like some of you said . This little gauge looks like it might work good. You think there would better head over the other ( Front VS Rear ) ?

I have a temp gage on Godzilla,
Never goes over 170deg even when it's 100deg out.
Factory radiator and fan.

Awesome Idea, never thought of doing that on a Briggs engine looks pretty easy, thermocouple under the spark plug, the wire to gauge, they make them for VW and Aircraft engines. Aircraft spruce is one place to look. not to expensive..
