Title: Hoow not to store a MAX
Post by: garretttpe on October 28, 2018, 07:28:27 PM
Hi ALL
Here is a little story/advice on what NOT to do when keeping your AATV outside, I moved from Maine to VA last month and needed to keep my MAX at my Amish friends house temporarily,(it was literarily a last min plan as it did not fit on my trailer). I parked it with the front up on a ramp to insure any water in the tub from rain would drain right out. This past Wednesday in 7 inches of freaking snow I went to put it into the uhaul truck and noticed it was full of water/ICE. I was like WTF.

Well apparently I forgot to remove the drain plugs, and a months worth of rain was in the tube and 1/2 of it was frozen solid I was able to get it started and I had to let it run for over an hr for the engine block to warm up and melt all the ice.

Moral of the story???? INSURE YOUR DRAIN PLUGS ARE REMOVED if you have no choice to leave it outside uncovered....

lesson learned

just like a boat. I ALWAYS store my boats with the plug out. And tell everyone I know to do the same. I once purchased a little jet boat from a junk yard. Had the plug in and was filled with a lot of water. Block was partially under water. The engine fired up with a little work, but it would never get up to speed. Turned out the foam under the floor/fiberglass was all water logged and it NEVER dried out. Sold it like that.
