The Flat bar (popsicle) is the early one. and the Channel is later version .
Look at the post in the T20 section here. Whipper put up info on Lateral Slop. It shows both versions there.
If it doesn't have Thrust washers it is more than likely the Popsicle trannny.

I was once told that the flat bar T-20's were the 9 tooth and the channel was 18 tooth, but I don't know how true that is.

This is the 9 tooth shift collar.
Yes all 3 need to match.
I'm sure you could run 9 tooth on one side and 18 on the other,
and you would never know the difference. I've never duun it.
I think the 9 tooth shifts beter.

If you are talking the shift collars they are 9 tooth or 18 tooth. The carrier plate, shift collar and ring gear drum all have to match (9 or 18 tooth). It doesn't matter which you decide to use but I would think both sides should be the same. I don't know how hard it would be to shift if one side was 9 and the other 18.

doe's ?
I did inform him you was the man to talk to on the T20 As You know it inside out !!
I take it the shift collars are 12 or 24 tooth ?
I have as to Yet take one of these apart !
But could rebuild your truck 5 speed in less than a day !
So the more I Learn the better I will be when I do take my StarCraft one down for rebuild.
