Hey guys, new to the forum but not to 6x6. Bought a Max4 new in 2001 and had a blast with it for years. Life happens and it got set aside for many years. In 2015 I decided to get it back out again and of course it needed some carb work. I was told my 18hp B&S was obsolete but I was able to buy a carb rebuilt kit from a local small engine shop. Rebuilt the carb and the engine never did quite run correctly. Few days later I bought a polaris rzr and currently own 3 of them.
It still hurts my feelings seeing my Max sitting there all these years not being used. I really want to get her back out and going. I just need to bite the bullet and get a new engine on her. I’m looking for suggestions on engine size, manufacturer and price. I’m thinking upgrade to a 25hp is the way to go.
Thanks for any help and info!

The 18 horse is still available but the carburetor has been renumbered many times since new. I would consider the 23 horse Briggs because it can be purchased with 1” crankshaft which saves new drive clutch. Muffler has to be changed as bolt pattern on heads I’d different.

I am running a Predator in my max 2 . I Personally Like it . Very Strong engine at a good price. Not to hard to figure the wiring and so on out also.

I see, I actually wasn’t sure the size of the output shaft. So the Briggs 23hp has a 1” and my clutch will mount back to it, whereas like a 25hp Kohler has a 1”1/8 shaft.
Thanks for the info

iagree
The Kohler has the 1.1/8 shaft. Plus it is Heavy and Taller . That's another reason I went with the predator kik

I almost bought the predator engine Monday when harbor freight had the 25% off discount. I hear it’s a strong motor.

I have a duromax 18 and it has been a good one but could use more power sometimes
