18 HP Vanguard Muffler

does anyone know the temp at the discharge side of the muffler on a 18hp vanguard?, I am thinking of using some aviation SKEET tubing, it can withstand temps up to 550F. it is extremely flexible, Just an idea

Another thing you could do is use a big lathe file and file the flange
Flat, then use a small rat tail file to elongate the holes.
That might work better than all the heat and bending..
Check for exhaust leaks.

It was more involved than suggested but all is good now, had to keep heating and tweaking, now to figure out where I want the exhaust to exit the machine and close the hole the original muffler pipe went through.... Next to remove the T20 and fix my linkage as whipper pointed out to me.....Hopefully the wife will reduce my honey do list as I only have weeks left at home.

Looks like it twisted when you moved it. I would take the gasket out and Heat the pipe then bolt it down while it is Hot. That way it should flatten out.

Hi All
Trying to install a new muffler and having some small issues and I need some advice/help. picture 1 shows how far off one of the muffler flange holes were off, pic 2 shows what it looks like after some MAP GAS and prybar, the issue in picture 2 is the flange is no longer square to the head, the gasket in the picture is not tight at all. I was not able to move the flange to the left with out it not being square.

Any suggestions to get the flange square to the head??( I do not have a welder)

Other than that I think this will be an awesome mod to my machine
