On the belt I'd read the forum threads, belt is not supposed to be tight like a fan belt.

Amp gauge will ony show a charge under throttle.

HI
I would check the Stator wires from the engine, should be 2 of them, the voltage should be min 22V AC, I just went through this with my riding lawn mower with a 24hp B&S Engine, if that is good check the voltage regulator for 14v DC, check that directly at the regulator, if good check at the battery and if bad their you have a break in the wire....

I have just spent 4 hours cleaning garbage out of my chains yes I mean literal garbage there were plastic bags cotton wadding and lots of other stuff to include alot of oil. :-\ Found that the drive belt is incredibly too loose and the batteries arent charging and the brakes are absolutely out of adjustment lol. So any ideas on the batteries not charging? I was thinking alternator on the brigs cause at higher rpm they seem to charge but not at idle. So any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The machine is a max II with the 18 hp vanguard.
