NEVER remove a link from a stretched chain. It will indeed cause major sprocket teeth damage!
Removing a link does shorten it's overall length, but it is still a stretched chain, in regards to the distance between the pins as Argo8x8 noted.

Also stretched chain is longer between the links (stretched) therefore it will wear out sprockets FAST, chain is cheap, sprockets are not.
You can find precut chain at good prices  on 6x6parts.com

You can take a link out but if the chain has stretched that much it should be replaced.  All you will be doing by taking a link out of a stretched chain is postponing the inevitable and taking a chance of it breaking.  kik

As per Msafi65 this is the link count on a Max IV:  52 for primary , 116 rear axles 122 front axles.

Replacement of Drive Chains.

I need to adjust the forward drive chain on my Max IV but it apparently has stretched out because there is no adjustment left.  Do I need to replace that chain or can I  (or should I ) take a link out to shorten it up?  And how many links are in the forward drive chain?  Thanks much.
