Don't forget you can get oversize bands from Richard, which allow proper plunger depth, so you can have long band life

The drums are ductile cast iron. Finish O.D. is 6.210. Write it down somewhere so you don't have to hunt for it if you ever need to know.

I talked with Matt @ R.I. about the specs on the T-20 drums. He said that you can safely turn the drums .030 undersize. That's only .015 per side. In a lot of cases that isn't enough to clean up any grooves or pitting. Anthing smaller than .030 may still work, but your bands would have to have a lot of material on them & in good shape. The more you turn the bands down, the farther the plungers will come out of the T-20. What you have to watch for is that the plungers don't come out so far as to expose the O-ring.

i ran some #'s on it today and here is what i figured out.

current diameter is 6.215" multiply by pi (3.14) = 19.5151" circumfrence
minus ten thousandths is 6.205" times pi = 19.4837"
subtract and come up with a difference of 0.0314"
the bands in the T-20 wrap the drum 2 1/2 times, so multiply 0.0314 by 2.5
and the difference in the distance the band has to wrap around is 0.0785 inches. on the plunger adjustment bolts (3/8 24) that works out to about 2turns

i ran my #'s by one of the engineers at work and he said it sounded right to him.

Msafi65 says "The drums can be refinished in a lathe by removing as much as .030 inch of material".  Of course you will probably need thicker bands.  Read his entire answer and the entire thread.  This should help you.

2000 Max II, in 2012 ish I had to turn one of my drums down as it was pretty bad, had the bands realigned by transmission crafters. was a bear to adjust everything as all the drums were diff sizes but i did and and it has driven great ever since, Now I want to "do it right" so what would the min drum dia I can go too and the max thickness of bands I can use? Now I am back in ATV country I want to get this done maybe over the winter, Also when turning them do you make them smooth as silk or slightly rough as a brake rotor? Had no clue what was doing then but thought I did, but now I have a little clue now, At least I know questions to ask.....LOL
