yes the CAT hangs off the manifold, while the engine was running I ran my hands around the joints and felt zero exhaust leaks, but still possible. the CAT was "cleaned" yrs ago. the car has 270k miles on it and I still get 27 MPG. although the power isnt as good as it use to be.. I will re examine the manifold again. thanks

bet you have a small crack in the manifold. try smoke testing if you have access to a emissions evap smoker. or even 10 P.S.I. air pressure and listen for any leaks in exhaust. I think the vibe has the cat convertor that hangs off it. they tend to leak or crack.

LMFAO at the Pic Whipper.

Not the wheel bearing as the loud noise is there with the car not moving...... It seems like the muffler I installed might not have been stock although I ordered a stock one.... very annoying

May sound like I am way off in left field but have you checked your wheel bearings?
I have had more customers than I can count coming in complaining of exhaust noise and it turns out to be a wheel bearing roaring away.
Its surprising how similar in noise they can be.

Check the emissions systems for an "aspirator" valve?

Pontiac Vibe Muffler Help
« Reply #1 on: April 04, 2018, 07:18:19 AM »
Good Morning all
I have a 2003 Vibe, over the years the muffler noise has gotten louder and louder, last rotation home I replaced the muffler and no diff. this rotation I replaced the resonator, both items are new. still no diff. it sounds like one of those stupid mufflers that ppl put on small cars to make it loud... I checked for leaks around the exhaust manifold and no leaks. this is weird, both parts are stock parts for the car. the catalytic convertor is "CLEAN".

Any suggestions? the noise is of a higher pitch.
